The Canchones alpaca herd is the premier black herd of suri and huacaya in Australia, with over 400 animals on their 400 acre farm in north east Victoria.
Canchones is a specialist breeder of fine black alpaca. The overriding breeding aim, of Canchones is to increase the density and fineness of the fleece of our black herd through research and investment in animals with superior genetics from Australia and Peru. Our aim is to do this without compromising on the conformation and frame of our alpaca.
The Canchones alpaca herd is the premier black herd of suri and huacaya in Australia, with over 400 animals on farm. The addition of the full Peruvian suri and huacaya dams and sires (selected in 2004) to our already broadly sourced Australian herd, has had a major influence in the improvements we are now seeing in our progeny.
No matter what you are aiming to improve in your alpacas, we have animals available with the genetic background that will strengthen your breeding programme.
The 160 hectare (400 acre), Canchones farm is located at Taggerty in North East Victoria. It is approximately an hour and a half from Melbourne via either the Maroondah Hwy through Healesville or the Western Ring Road and Hume Highway via Tallarook and Yea. Accommodation is available on farm by prior arrangement.
